VMware - Quality Testing Ooops

August 12, 2008 | 5:23 pm

This showed up in my inbox about 45 minutes ago… Ooops. Thanks for sending me this, VMware! Although not directly impacted by this effort - the clients that I’m working with are all scrambling.

VMware ESX35 Issue e-mail

Essentially if you restart a virtual server running on VMware ESX 3.5 with update 2 on it, it will fail to come back online due to a licensing key debacle. No work around besides setting your clock back? Ouch!! Get that patch out yesterday already!

Free Coffee & Baked Goods

August 08, 2008 | 11:00 am

Strangely enough - it seems as though I’m getting quite a few opportunities for woman in police “uniforms”. Another WTF:

A Chicago police officer has been suspended for 15 months for demanding free coffee and baked goods from six different Starbucks.

Officer Barbara Nevers, a 14-year veteran, has also been ordered to undergo counseling.

The Police Board ruled in May that 55-year-old Nevers intimidated Starbucks employees by screaming at them and flashing her badge, handcuffs or gun when they wanted her to pay. The board released its findings Thursday.

Nevers’ attorney says her client never used her job to demand coffee. She says some coffeehouses gave it to her for free because she was an officer.

911 Sub Call

August 05, 2008 | 9:14 am

The sauce for a spicy Italian sandwich was apparently a must have for one Florida man. The man, Reginald Peterson, called 911 twice after a sandwich shop left off the sauce.

Peterson initially called the emergency number Thursday so that officers could have his subs made correctly, according to a police report. The second call was to complain that police officers weren’t arriving fast enough.

Subway workers told police that Peterson, 42, became belligerent and yelled when they were fixing his order. They locked him out of the store when he left to call police.

When officers arrived, they tried to calm Peterson and explain the proper use of 911. Those efforts failed, and he was arrested on a charge of making false 911 calls.

Peterson did not have a listed phone number.

Idiot Thievery

July 22, 2008 | 2:23 pm

In this photo released by the Monroe Police Department, burglary suspect Kyle Burress is seen sleeping on pillows and pads allegedly stolen from storage containers at a nearby department store July 9, 2008, in Monroe, Wash. Burress was one of two men who were found asleep on apparent stolen goods after they allegedly broke into storage containers at Fred Meyer and left a trail of evidence to where they were found asleep. Police took some photographs before waking and arresting the pair, who have been charged with second-degree theft.
