Sara Bareilles - Love Song

March 25, 2008 | 8:29 pm

While quite popular after her free Apple iTunes debut many months ago, I’m a bit late in stumbling upon Sara Bareilles’ latest tune entitled “Love Song”. I’m pretty much at a loss as to how she came across my surfing travels - but nonetheless, this tune has been stuck in my head ever since.

Be sure to check out the usual places - Wikipedia, her own Web site, or even MySpace if you need even more material.

I’m a casual listener of Maroon 5, which she actually has some history with - hanging around in the same circles while working on their music degrees at UCLA. But there’s just a really natural, soulful sound to Sara’s voice, similar to another favorite singer of mine, Norah Jones. (I might put Vanessa Carlson in there as well, but her music is becoming more hit and miss to me lately…)

For the important part, the song sample…

While I was visiting Sara’s Web site for more info, music clips and what not, I found the video to this song being actually quite good in it’s story telling as well. Feel free to play a bit of it on YouTube (the embedded video is disabled for some reason…) Not the best quality for sure - but you get the idea.

Of course while there’s plenty for the ears to enjoy, you can’t help but not enjoy Sara’s visual appeal as well…

Home Office Furniture

March 06, 2008 | 10:42 pm

I’m almost a week into my new job with HP and it’s been going pretty good so far. Mostly getting organized, filling out paperwork, getting my training scheduled and underway… You know - the normal points of a new hire. (I will say, I’ve been overly impressed with how easy everything has gone including a working laptop and VPN on my first day of employment…)

One of the other items I’ve been wrapping up this week if figuring out my home office needs. Since I’m essentially a telecommuter in the full time sense, having an efficient and organized home office was needed. I was already “sharing” one of our bedrooms as a project music studio - slash - wrapping station - but with being now being stationed at home, the bedroom is now officially an office.

Scouring the Web for some insight into SOHO requirements, I’ve now settled into essentially modular furniture. It’s sturdy, easy to assemble, can be shipped and brought upstairs easily, and is actually pretty cost effective. Granted - I’ve dreamed of having a large bookcase-lined office made of mahogany with an executive desk right in the middle. The thought of engineered fiberboard with laminate tops doesn’t necessarily scream HGTV style, but I’m okay with being practical for now. Actually - I’m pretty excited since my new furniture from Office Depot is arriving tomorrow!

Now even though I ended up ordering my furniture from Office Depot, Staples actually has a very cool Web site called Master Plan Office Simulator that lets you “design” your furniture layouts with a simple CAD type flash application. After putting in my room dimensions, windows & doors - I just moved some furniture pieces around and came up with these pretty cool designs:

Home Office Design 2

I know it’s only furniture - but I’ve been in an 8×6 foot cubical for the last 9 years. It was time to spread out a little bit with some extra storage and desk space. It should make for an extended assembly weekend for sure. I’ll get some real pictures up after everything is put together… What was on my list?

  • 361821 - Bush Components Bow-Front Desk Shell
  • WC24461 - Bush Components 60″ Credenza
  • WC24424 - Bush Components Return Bridge
  • WC24462 - Bush Components 60″ Hutch
  • WC24412 - Bush Components Open Single Bookcase
  • WC24453 - Bush Components 3-Drawer Pedestal
  • 456040 - Bush Universal Utility Drawer
  • 362451 - Bush Universal Keyboard Shelf
  • 883108 - Bush Light Pack

You can peruse the Bush Web site for little thumbnails… Fun little guys huh?

Too bad those little pieces of furniture don’t look like my Heart Attack Grill girls…

My Mom Can Kick Your Mom’s…

March 04, 2008 | 9:10 am

Chuck E. Cheese Logo

A child’s birthday party at a Chuck E. Cheese restaurant was cut short after a fight broke out between two mothers. Natick police said the mom of the 9-year-old birthday boy apparently became enraged because the other woman’s son was “hogging” an arcade game.

Sgt. Paul Thompson said Catherine Aliaga, 38, and Tarsha Williams, 33, both of Boston, would be summoned into court to answer charges of simple assault and battery stemming from the scuffle.

Thompson told the MetroWest Daily News that police received a number of 911 calls about the fight Saturday night.

He said what started as a birthday celebration turned into a “birthday melee.”

Apple GUI Delights

March 03, 2008 | 10:30 pm

Apple has had their Aqua GUI interface for some time now. This is nothing new… But I’ve always been secretly mesmerized by the simplicity of the style. Almost like my fascination with flashing lights! In any case… I came across an image that made me want to brush up on my Photoshop skills (I’ve been really out of practice for the past 10 years!).

I present:

Apple Blue Ball

Can I have one? Perhaps I’ll find it looking for some Photoshop tutorials… Isn’t there just a filter I can download? It’s so sweet to see 3D objects made with 2D design tools.
